Q: using iCloud a back-up instead of a hard disc

Haven't used iCloud before. Had two Mac hard drive disasters and I lost my huge music collection and everything else and had no back-up. Still don't have a back-up because I'm restricted by Apple to Portuguese Apple sites and they don't have what I need/want.

Thinking of a workaround. If I store everything on iCloud will I be able to get it all back on a repaired Mac or a new one if needs must?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), 21.5–inch

    Hi,

Apple music and iTunes Match are not back up services. iCloud Music Library: Understanding differences between Apple Music and iTunes Match - Apple Support

You could use iCloud storage and pay for the amount of storage pace that you need. However, a better option would be the use of an external hard drive to back up your iTunes library.

Why not? There should be plenty of places selling external hard drives that can be used with Apple computers and make use of the time machine facility to back up everything.

If you don't have iTunes Match and no back up at present, I'm afraid you are out of luck.

    Thanks for the reply Jim.

I know I can buy Apple compatible stuff elsewhere but one thing I can't always get is certain music from the past that I want which is only on the UK iTunes site. I also want to be able to access the UK Apple site because I, as a UK citizen should be able to access and buy from the country of my birth and citizenship. It's because my UK bank insist on my bank account being registered to my Portuguese address and not my UK property in London that  Apple insist I can only have access to and buy from their Portuguese sites. I like Apple products and yes I could buy from Amazon etc but then I have a lot of problems with deliveries from Amazon and ebay etc because I live in the middle of nowhere, and half the things I order never arrive because of the stupid couriers they use here. Never a problem before with couriers Apple use. Portuguese Apple doesn't have what I want. The iMac I'm on now came with a Portuguese keyboard which is next to useless for me as I do a lot of writing and Portuguese keyboard layout and letter and punctuation characters are different to UK or US English. I'm gonna have to bribe my brother to buy and ship for me which he's sick to death of doing. or go to the UK myself just to buy in a real Apple street store and bring back. Stupid situation eh? I have an official organisation in the UK helping me to get the bank to change their policy to Brits living abroad. After all, the internet is called the WORLD WIDE WEB. What kind of global is this?
