• Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support
Do you have system install-restore DVD for the OS X and have you
tried starting from the install disk #1 & use Disk Utility to check HDD
and also use the hardware test (though inconclusive) from disk #2?
• Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support
The computer may need some hand-holding at an authorized Apple
service provider with further in-depth testing & diagnostics.
