Your options for upgrade OS X will be rather limited due to the vintage of your unit;

hardware upgrade is helpful no matter the final or present OS X and apps inside it.

Depending on the build model identifier and year/month manufactured information,

the memory upgrade can vary between models from or about 2007 date. The date

it was being sold does not directly relate to the build or manufacture date specs.

Some models that were produced in 2007 can run as new a system as El Captian;

some users would consider buying $20. Mountain Lion 10.8 from the Apple Store

if their computer or their experience with older OS X was preferential to that version.

A good example of upgrade parts, drives, memory, & other, to compare, is OWC:

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
