How do I increase my upload speed?

I have a MacBook Pro Os X 10.11.2 and am attempting to upload media (MP4 videos) and it is extremely slow. I have tried connecting directly with ethernet cable but it still takes forever. How do I increase my upload speed?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Are you talking about uploading to a remote site over the internet?

If so, talk to your ISP.

Your transfer speed will be limited by your ISP. Typically residential connections have faster download speeds than upload speeds - which is acceptable for most internet traffic that you consume, but it can affect uploads. Upload speeds can be 1/10th of the download speed, and only your ISP can affect it (usually for extra $$s, of course).
