Agreed, it's ridiculous how high and mighty these "volunteers" are on this forum. I would never treat a customer this way. Yes sometimes they do stupid things, but it is not right to belittle them. Customer service does not seem to be a strong point on these forums.

It helps to help yourself as well. Please see http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/ . Having AppleCare can also help. Mail-in options also exist for anyone unable/unwilling to reach the nearest Apple store/AASP. In some cases, BestBuy (or similar) may also be able to assist.

Send in for repair. Start a service request online or by calling Apple Support and we'll send a box right away to collect your iPhone. You can then arrange to ship it to an Apple Repair Center at your convenience. We'll deliver your iPhone back to you in 3-5 business days.

Bring in for repair. Make an appointment at an Apple Store or one of our many Apple authorized service locations. We'll try to fix your iPhone during your visit. In more complex cases, we might need to send it to an Apple Repair Center. If we do, your iPhone will be ready for pickup in 3-5 business days. If your iPhone is under warranty, many of our locations can offer you a loaner while your iPhone is being repaired.

Be aware that you are a customer of Apple, not of any of these volunteers. They provide a 'free' service, unlike Apple employees. You can always ignore replies that you dislike.

Sorry arilozner,

Disregard that last post. As was kindly pointed out by ChrisJ4203, I was getting this issue mixed up with another one that has been flooding the forum.

So, here is the link that you would want to try:

LAWRENCE'S DFU USER TIP

If that doesn't work, then I think if you take it back to Apple now, they would be able to get you sorted.

Best of luck, and sorry about the erroneous link above 😟

Just wanted to chime in to confirm that DFU fixed this issue for me. Pasting the instructions from this link below in case anyone else needs them.

I will note that when I was performing the reset, it took much, much longer than a standard reset. For a very long time, it was on a white screen with a black apple logo with no progress bar. I figured I would leave it on that screen until the phone died, but after checking in an hour or two later, it was on the "Hello" screen and I was able to restore from an iCloud backup. Good luck.

  1. Plug your iPhone into your computer and open iTunes. It doesn’t matter if your iPhone is on or off.
  2. Press and hold the Sleep / Wake Button and Home Button together for 8 seconds.
  3. After 8 seconds, release the Sleep / Wake Button but continue to hold the Home Button until iTunes says “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.”User uploaded file
  4. Let go of the Home Button. Your iPhone’s display will be completely black if you’ve successfully entered DFU mode. If it’s not, try again from the beginning.
  5. Restore your iPhone using iTunes.

D he already did it. the forced reset will not do any further harm.

One must be really crazy to do this. The article will only augment the number of cases... (not your fault, but your iPhone is bricked) 😁

In General: There will never be a (complicated) OS that can be completely safe for really idiot actions!

Nobody sets accidentally a date to 1.1.1970 😁

Dude I changed the ******* date with a setting they put in the phone its not like I modified the software or damaged it I literally scrolled through a setting I didn't even change the date fully all I did was change the year. If a 500 dollar phone is this exploitable its a ******* joke I had a android phone for 2 years I smashed and fixed myself and ****** with and had literally no issues

You can easily resolve this issue by following the instructions already provided. You intentionally put the date in (for what reason, we don't know), and, as has also been explained, it corresponds with a value deep in the logic that causes the issue you have seen. If you want to experiment with internet garbage on your device, that is your prerogative. You have now completed your experiment, and you see the results. If you want it fixed then follow the instructions. If you want to complain because of your own gullibility, then do it on Twitter or Facebook. This is a user to user technical support forum. Rants and complaints for the sake of complaining are against the TOU.

I am not a "Dude". And, when you do something that someone on the internet said was "cool", bad things are very likely to happen.
