How do I transfer photos on my iPhone 5 onto iCloud?

No memory left on my phone. Too many photos. Worried about loosing them all if I don't successfully load onto iCloud, but not confident how to do it. Anyone help this sorry technophobe?!

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1.1

Settings/iCloud and slide Photos syncing on. Then select to Optimize your storage. If you delete a photo off the phone it will delete from iCloud. By Optimizing storage, your photos space will be reduced by about 90%.
