Trying to upgrade to OS X EL capitan, update keeps failing..ive tried restarting it but it keeps doing the same thing..anyone know what the issue could be?

Trying to update to os x el capitan but I keep getting the message "file system verify or repair failed. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again"

Before you do ANYTHING please backup your system!!!! This error indicates your system may have problems with the HD. Prior to doing installs OS X checks the health of the computer, if it finds problems it will error out. I STRONGLY suggest restarting in Recovery Partition (Command + R) and open Disk Utility and either run Repair Disk or First Aide. If any errors appear, that indicates the HD is about to fail and must be replaced.

Are you getting the message repeatedly with the same installer, or have you re-downloaded the installer and tried with the same result?

If you haven't already tried re-downloading, it would be worth a try,.Also, if you downloaded whilst connected via wifi perhaps trying using an ethernet connection may work better (if it's an option).

You may need to delete the existing installer file from your Applications folder in order to be able to re-download it.
