Can I record directly to iMovie

I have a Macbook 15" and it has iMovie in it. I have a Logitech 1080 Video camera. Can I record directly to the Macbook?

No, only from the built in camera in the your Macbook. Details at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/movc665d799a

You can however make a recording from your Logitech using Quicktime Player or Photo Booth then import the resulting file into iMovie.

Is Quicktime player and Photo Booth separate programs that I have to download or is it the regular Quicktime player that I already have?

Both are programs that should be in your Applications folder.
