If you are still on Mountain Lion, then you are dealing with two scenarios:

  1. You purchased and downloaded Pages '09 and Numbers '09 from the OS X App Store prior to Fall 2013.
  2. You installed from the retail iWork '09 DVD

If item 1, and if you have a Time Machine backup that contains these self-contained applicatiions, then by all means, just restore them. Otherwise, visit the OS X App Store Purchases tab, and see if entries exist for these older applications. If not, then it is unlikely that it remains available for redownload from the OS X App Store, as Apple has long since retired the products. You can try the Install/Download and attempt a reinstall of these applications to Mountain Lion, but it may scold you about Pages v5.6.1 and Numbers 3.6.1 being incompatible.

If Item 2, then you will have to reinstall from the retail iWork '09 DVD, and then follow-up with the Apple iWork 9.3 updater (gets you updated to Pages v4.3, Numbers v2.3, and Keynote 5.3). That Apple updater is only used with the iWork '09 DVD applications. If your version of OS X is newer than your indicated Mountain Lion, then this paragraph is how you get Pages '09 and Numbers '09 back, including on El Capitan.

If your signature is old, and you are wanting to retrieve some release of Pages v5 and Numbers v3, then things get more interesting:

  1. Pages and Numbers versions at or below 5.2.2 and 3.2.2 are restricted to Mavericks and these are now unavailable from the OS X App Store.
  2. Current versions in the App Store (Pages v5.6.1, Numbers v3.6.1) now require OS X 10.10.4 or later, or they won't install from the OS X App Store

If you are running OS X 10.10.4 or later, sign into the OS X App Store, and under the Purchases tab, reinstall Pages and Numbers.
