My Mac is showing I have new iMessages but I don't.

My iMac is showing I have 3 iMessages but I don't have any that I can find. Is there a way to find these 3 messages? I have gone thru my messages and I've seen all of them. If there are no new messages, how do I get rid of the 3 in my blue Messages button?
