AirPlay - iPod logo

A user was trying to airplay a laptop to her Apple TV the other day. Normally when selecting an Apple TV for airplay, a small tv screen icon appears next to the Apple TV's name. In this instance, an iPod logo appeared next to the Apple TV name Instead of the TV screen icon. What would cause this?
