reregister macbook air using different email?

I moved back to the US in July 2013 from Italy, after having lived there some years. I was using an email address which I guess Apple considered to be my European ID. I did have to change the ID on most of my devices back then, but realized the wife's MacBook Air was still on the European ID. In trying (first time) to sync her iPhone on this computer, it notes (basically) I need to register it with the stateside ID. I've read where deregistering it will cause me to have to repurchase iTunes (which I would need), and a couple other programs in which I have no interest. Since I'm the same guy, and the owner hasn't changed- is there a way I can register the MB Air to my stateside ID without the extra cost?

I think you have things somewhat jumbled.

There's an AppleID. It can be associated with an iTunes Store in a country. If you change country, change store association. If you have a change in e-mail address to then change your email address for that Apple ID. It is a separate issue from changing country association. You do not want multiple IDs, a US AppleID and a European ID.

You can't purchase iTunes. iTunes is the application running on your computer, not music or movies. Media purchased in one country cannot be re-downloaded once you change countries. Make sure you download everything before you change countries and maintain your own copy (+backup!!) on your computer.

The iTunes Store in a country is intended for use only by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store. You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.

E.g., "The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
