Mac not booting

My MacBook Pro won't boot up past the grey loading screen; it loads about halfway, the screen flashes, and it turns off. I can't load it into recovery mode either although this is what I'm trying to do and I could do it earlier today. Any ideas??

Hi pastalex42,

Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like your MacBook Pro doesn't start up to the desktop. Trying to start up to OS X Recovery is a good step. You mention that you were able to get to recovery mode earlier. Were you able to run Disk Utility First Aid or reinstall OS X?

In this situation, I'd recommend trying these hardware resets next:

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

After these steps, you can use the advice in the following link to continue troubleshooting--If a flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac.

Best Regards.
