Can i read .mp3 i receive with messenger

I Receive a . Mp3 by messenger app , is it normal i can't read it ???

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.2.1

Some .mp3 files are playable via the Messages app, but some are not. It all depends on the file and if it contains DRM protection, etc.
