Apple TV (3rd Gen) software update is failing

Question

Apple TV (3rd Gen) software update is failing.

Current software version is 6.0(6646.65).
Model MD199LL/A
When I go to Settings -> General -> Software Updates. It shows that there is a software update available.
When I select 'Update Software', and then 'Download and Install' in the following screen, it says 'Estimated Time remaining' and then gives the message that 'The update was not successful. The Apple TV update couldnt be downloaded at this time. Try again later.'

Iphone 6 and Macbook Pro screen mirroring is not working and I assume it is because of outdated software.

Please help on how to fix this or how to tr.

could be down to the router requiring a firmware update or a restart or it not allowing the required ports too https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202944

some people set their router to be 100% secure and locked down and then end up not being able to use many features across their network

Restore option not working as well .. it gives same error.
