how do i keep the message left open on left

Every message is in full screen mode and I want to be able to keep my message list open on the left and minimize my e-mail message itself. The way it looks when i have the iPad in landscape - is the way i want it to look when the iPad is horizontal.

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 9.2.1

The landscape view is specific to that orientation, as is the portrait view to its orientation. Users have no control over those display options, sorry. If you want the message list on the left, you have to switch to landscape orientation.
