iPhone 5 with completely no screen, How can i check if it works?

I have recently purchased a second hand iPhone 5. It has completely no screen or home button or earpiece. I can see the battery and the internals. How can i check if it works or not? I was hoping to try and fix it but I don't want to waste money on a phone that won't ever work.
