Start up disc is almost full

The prompt comes up that my start up disc is almost full. I'm unable to upgrade anything. The computer is running unusually slow as well. Any helpful thoughts would be most appreciated.

Delete files.

Buy an external drive and copy files onto it. Target big ones (videos) or large numbers of smaller ones (music, photos).

Your computer needs around 9GB of free space at all times or it may crash. It will run slower as it has to hunt for room to store files. It may also help to install more RAM, if possible.

Run this analyzer and post the results here.

first you have to get rid of the adware infections, that means making a bit more free space then scrap it:

- open SystemPreferences->Usrs&Groups->LoginItems: remove all entries there with the minus sign underneath.

- empty the trash bin

- Open CleanMyMac, select uninstall at the left, uninstall CleanMyMac, this is a very bad app.

Now Restart the mac.

Then:

Download a adware removal app: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/

then run the scan: it will remove the adware infections.

Then start removes user files: like movies, videos, and other large files, back them up on an external first when you want to keep them.

Then restart again. Observe if your system behaves better or not.

Run an etrecheck list again. If you have used CleanMyMac it may have done serious harm.

- CleanMyMac:

Maybe you have trashed the CleanMyMac already. It sits in Applications or Utilities folder normally.

There are many "leftovers", we can do that by hand, but an easier way is (maybe not 100%) using DetectX app:

download it here: http://sqwarq.com/detectx/

and run it "all searches", delete everything it finds. Then quit it.

Restart the mac.

- There has to be done a bit more I think: run a new etrecheck list, and we will see.

-- In Finder go to the place where the movie(s) are: if you do not want to keep them, mov them t the trash, If you want to keep them copy them first to the external disk.

-- there are a few things that have to be removed:

(in Finder) Apple SSD (startup disk)->Library->LaunchAgents in that folder delete com.coupons.coupond.plist

(in Finder) Apple SSD (startup disk)->Library->InternetPlug-ins in that folder delete AdobePDFViewer and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI

and CouponPrinter-FireFox

-- Then in SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems remove all entries in there with the minus sign underneath, when you use Dropbox continuously you can let it be there. This does not uninstall anything, but it will not automatically start and run continuously anymore. You start when you need it by hand.

Restart again.

Make a new etrecheck list again.

I will be back in 3 hours from now.

Hello estine,

Download and run Omni Disk Sweeper (https://www.omnigroup.com/more) to see where your disk space is being used. You now have 12 GB free so you aren't in immediate danger, but you really don't want to run out of disk space. That will truly wreak havoc on your system.

Also, I will have a chat with the Apple moderators about the "<Edited by host>" statements related to your EtreCheck report. The seem to have edited out your battery serial number. But that is not your machine serial number, only the battery serial number. People were concerned about the use of 3rd party batteries and requested that I add the serial number to help identify the batteries that are potentially dangerous and a fire hazard.

-- It is easier to remove the movies from iTunes. Select them, remove, remove from disk.

-- Finder->menuPreferences->Sidebar: check all "Devices"

in Finder at the left check the startupdisk (Apple SSD..), on the right there is a folder called Library.

Etresoft: there was some non anonymous info in the crash information in the Diagnostics Information.
