Are you saying it's taking a long time for your computer to boot up?  There could be several reasons for this.  Start by going to http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck — download and run EtreCheck, copying the status report to paste here.  It'll let us see what's on your system right now, and if there's something on it causing the extreme slowness in boot time, we'll see it and advise you on what to do next.

Slow boot up can be caused if your Startup Disk is not specified

System Preferences -> Startup Disk (you may need to unlock the padlock in the lower left corner), and make sure your boot disk is selected.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Test after each one. Back up all data before making any changes.

    1. Set the default startup disk.

    2. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up. If there's no change, reconnect them

    3. Reset the System Management Controller.

    4. Reset the PRAM. Afterwards you'll need to repeat Step 1.

    5. Reset the printing system.

    Hi all,

I have no help for the OP, rather I have the same problem so I figured I'd join the thread and you could potentially help both of us.

I have just purchased a mid-2011 iMac and upgraded it to 10.11.3 for my wife. I created a fusion drive for her with the existing Apple SSD and HDD. All seems well except ridiculously (to me) startup times. From power to 2/3 across the process bar takes only 25 seconds or so, but then everything slows down. It takes a total of about 1:38 to the desktop photo, 1:56 to the Apple menu at left, 2:39 to the other menu items and the desktop icons, and all the way to 4:07 for Google (set to automatically open) to get to my homepage. By contrast, my 2013 MBP can do this in 15 seconds.

I have followed all of Linc's directions and I have also disabled all Notifications. I note that, watching Activity Monitor as soon as I can launch it after startup, CPU usage is still low. Most active in CPU time are CalendarAgent 30%, accountsd 16%, Kernel_task 12% with lots of threads and idle wake-ups, and Dropbox 16-20%. Once all is up and running, the chugging of the HDD stops and performance seems fine (e.g., Photoshop CS5 starts up, including initializing type tool, in 15 seconds).

Finally, I append my EtreCheck report which calls my computer's performance "excellent." Ha!

    Hello buddhaauthor,

The EtreCheck performance indicator is just a measure of how long it takes EtreCheck to run. If there are problems that cause EtreCheck to run very slowly, then they are likely serious, systematic problems. If EtreCheck says performance is "excellent" when you know it isn't, that means you have a good chance of finding out what is causing the problem and just removing that.

The first thing you should do is run MalwareBytes for Mac remove your: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/

That might actually fix the problem. If not, post a new question specific to your problem. You have a good description, but after you remove the adware you should create a new EtreCheck report. Anyone who sees that adware there is just going to tell you the same thing I just did.

You should start your own "New" thread (see the "New" button at the top of this page), and not threadjack 's.  It gets confusing mixing answers to multiple problems in the same thread.  If you want to point a pointer to your "New" thread, that is fine.

And while you are at it,

    Adware:

        ~/Library/Application Support/Genieo

        One adware file found. [Remove]

    and get rid of it

    A couple of things —

    • I would uninstall uTorrent.  We both know what it's used for, and you shouldn't be doing it.
    • I would also uninstall Google Chrome.  It's a RAM hog, and "Google Chrome Helper" is using up nearly 1 GB of it just by itself.
    • Do you have FileVault activated?

Yes, FileVault is activated but I don't know what's it's purpose.

    Now what should I do?

FileVault is whole disk encryption.  If your Mac is lost or stolen, no one will be able to access the data on your SSD storage unless they also get your password.

FileVault is the first password you have to enter when you initially boot your Mac.

Since you have a recent Mac, your intel processor has on-chip encrypt/decrypt assistance so that accessing your SSD storage is not slowed down.  I'm guessing that was asking about FileVault, under the impression it would slow down your system.  On your system it will not.  I have a 2011 Macbook Pro with FileVault enabled, and it is quite fast.  Yours is an even newer Mac with a newer intel processor.  FileVault is not your problem.

    Hello Md. Shoeb,

BobHarris is correct, but pinkstones might also be onto something. Under normal circumstances, with an SSD, FileVault does not cause any problems and will not noticeably slow down your system. But your FileVault is stuck on Paused. Why is that?

This problem has been reported here before: FileVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"
