Software upgrade to a late 2006 iMac running Lion 10.7.5.

I have a late 2006 iMac running Lion 10.7.5. I know I can't upgrade the software as is, but can the 'guts' of the existing monitor/chassis assembly be removed and new/newer 'guts' be installed so the software can be upgraded?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

It would be less expensive and be a better experience if you just bought a newer iMac.
