An authorized trained Apple service provider independent company

may be able to supply your computer with the correct spec RAM

upgrade, not of some PC clone quality, instead reputable spec...

But you'd pay near retail and hope for the best, even then.

You could try a company within the region, if not in that city.

One I've had good results from (by mail to Alaska) is in CA

and goes by the name 'oempcworld' as it usually beats others

plus they will ship without fedex, and to a secure PO Box; a

few options others may not provide.

If you have researched exact specifications for that MacBook

then places such as oempcworld may be a good idea; if you

have time then OWC aka macsales.com is a better one.

The subtle specifications are what the Mac looks to be correct.

Kernel Panic and other odd happenings can occur if not to spec.

For online comparison I look to macsales.com because they do

offer suggested product and support; and a guaranteed parts.

Don't get rid of the old RAM just yet, after an upgrade, since it is

essential to use that to troubleshoot any memory chip upgrade

issues could result from irregular or improper upgrade spec RAM.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Given the computer you state (as relates to upgrade) appears as:

• MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)

Introduced October 2011

Discontinued June 2012

Model Identifier MacBookPro8,1

Model Number A1278

EMC 2555

Order Number MD313LL/A (2.4 GHz), MD314LL/A (2.8 GHz)

{The third-party (if quality components guaranteed to work with mac) upgrade

specs suggest a higher total RAM capacity can be used, above Apple's specs.}

Maximum Memory 16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)

Memory Slots 2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Some users upgraded to the higher number and found issues; so found

kernel panic and other issues, if or when they had upgrade parts from

less qualified reseller who shipped PC-grade RAM -- not ready for Mac.

Anyway, the macsales site has details, and if an EFI (firmware) upgrade

is needed they also indicate that; as would Apple support sources; and at

times the higher 'supported' memory may rely on a pending EFI update...

But not always. Your model (according to http://mactracker.ca spec) did; so

if it had not been applied, that may be pending. An OS X upgrade may have

done that. Or not. I don't know...

Here's the item shown by mactracker for your MacBook Pro...

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7

Anyway, sorry to tell you a lot because these details may help to confuse... 🙂
