1 gen TC and airport 6.3.6

So i have a 1st Gen TC and airport utility 6.3.6.

I need to make a massive first back up, but I can't seem to get my settings right to have the backup done on solely ethernet. Can anyone help?

When I look up settings in older threads, steps seem to be included that are no longer options in the new airport utility. Any guidance will be appreciated

The version of the utility is pretty much irrelevant here.

Plug the Mac directly into the TC by ethernet. Turn off wireless in the Mac.

Now setup Time Machine to do the backup.

If TC is not recognised you will need to do some more setup.. but it can be absolutely minimal. All you need is to give the TC a name (one that you should keep using) so make it short, no spaces and purely alphanumeric. Do not use the Apple Recommended names.

Pretty much the minimal setup should work.. but if it is already setup in the network all the better.. you don't need to do anything from airport utility. Just use the Time Machine setup to choose the TC as target and start the backup.
