battery life low on iPad

I have a new iPad with version 9.2.1 that can not keep a batter charge. I charge fully and use for 15 mins close the cover and it is drained by the next day. Closing the cover does put it to sleep. I think I have a lemon. I already made the changes to preserve battery life and to shut down apps not in use.
