I want to add a custom lower third to an iMovie project.

I want to add a lower third, created as a png, to an iMovie project. Can this be done? I was able to import it as media, but don't know how to get it positioned over the portion of the video I want to highlight.

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Figured it out.

Drag the graphic into the timeline and position it at the beginning of where you want the lower third.

Stretch the graphic to cover the amount of time you want it on screen.

Click the cropping tool and select "Fit"

Click the video overlay button (looks like two screens slightly offset from each other)

Select "Picture in Picture" from the drop down - THIS IS THE SECRET!

You will see the graphic as a small image in the middle of the preview area. Size it with the corner handles. Drag it to where you want it on the main video.

This also works for a bug!
