Does iTunes modify library folder files?

I want to use my network mp3 folder for iTunes Apple device syncing but I'm afraid it will modify the files or folders (I currently use the copy on my laptop).

Does iTunes modify any of the files or folders?

D Hinged,

Go into Edit > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that Keep... and Copy... are both turned off. This will cause iTunes to use the existing copies of the audio files without changing or moving anything.

Also do not use any cloud-based services that can interfere with your library, namely Apple Music or iTunes Match.

As a precaution, make a full backup before you start.
