iPod 5th gen won't turn on or charge

Long story short. It went dead last night, and now it won't even charge. I've plugged it into various sockets, used various cords/blocks, and I even tried it on my PC. Nothing. And no, the obligatory "why don't you just hold the power and menu buttons down" does not work (so please just save it). I'm actually quite ****** and I'm looking for some real, serious fixes. So, I'll let you Apple 'geniuses' have at it.

EDIT: It's been plugged in for HOURS. Yet, every time I hold the power button, it displays the picture of the drained battery with a charger cord below it, and a lightning bolt above it.

- Try another cable. The cable for 5G or later iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

Try cleaning out the charge port with a toothpick or something similar. Occasionally they get full of compressed lint and dust to the point where the charger can't plug all the way in. Before you do so, have a look inside with a torch just so you are aware of where the pins are.

If that doesn't work, then I'd say you have a damaged or faulty charge port.

In that case, your options would be:

1. take it to Apple for an Out Of Warranty Replacement

2. take it to an independent repairer. It's a soldering job, albeit not too difficult, but not all repairers do this type of work. But plenty do.
