Sounds like whatever cracked the screen did internal damage. Take it to Apple and ask them to check it out. They may allow you to purchase an out of warranty replacement for it.
I doubt that they'll check it out. I expect that they'll go right to the OOW replacement. Of course, they could say it's been tampered with so just go home - no repair and no OOW replacement.
I have no idea at all why you say that. I can't find any place in the original post where there is any mention of tampering with the iPhone.
There is a big difference between tampering and damage.
