Edit "home videos" in iMovie on iOS

hi, just trying to do something as simple as edit a video in iMovie on iOS, the source video was imported via iTunes which is a video created using photos on my Mac which was then exported to a video format in 1080p. open up the videos app on iPad and it is categorized under "home videos" plays fine. However trying to edit said video in iMovie it cannot import it and doesn't even see it. I guess to make it simple my question should be how the heck do I import a video into my iOS device which I can then edit in iMovie for iOS.

iPad Air, iOS 9.2.1

Copy the finished movie back into your Photos app -or- save it to iCloud Drive -or- Airdrop it from your Mac to your iPad. You should then be able to access it in the media browser in iMovie iOS (providing it's in a compatible format).
