I have tried this at differebt locations also but facing the same issue and this is really not expected from apple its only 2 days I bought my iphone, really disappointing. Please reply ASAP

Does it make the sound when recording a video with the other camera (ie, front facing camera as opposed to rear camera)?

I would be inclined to say there is a problem with the particular microphone which is associated with the camera you are using (your phone has 3 separate microphones).

If that's the case, you should be able to get the phone replaced under warranty.
