Skype App not responding

Hey everyone so i know that Skype is not apple software but its not responding considering that it used to i dont really know whats happened anyway its a macbook air early 2014 it runs on OS X version 10.9.5, in the past i tried to up date it but Safari just would not load google at all so thats why i have not updated it could this be the reason why Skype has stopped working or is it something worse than that?

If anyone could help me then that would be so great
