Boot lag (before the Apple logo pops up, and already tried primary boot disc selection)

Hello. I have a macbook pro retina 13" 2015.

The problem I have is the same as the title, but it's not the regular "choose proper boot disk from settings" because I tried that several times already.

MInd you, none of these problems remain once Mac OS booting has finished, it's just the delay before the booting starts.

Here is the list of problems.

1. There is a very long delay of black screen(backlight on) between the boot sound and the apple logo showing up on screen.

2. Post-boot key combinations take a long time to register. For instance, 'boot disk selection window' takes more than 2 minutes of waiting. I have to wait while pressing the option key. The same is true of entering recovery, resetting pram, entering diagnostics, entering safe mode, etc.

3. After I eventually get a function running, there is a trackpad/keyboard delay. Interactions show up unusably slow on Boot Disk Selector and Internet Recovery(wifi selection). Trackpad responds about a minute after I touched it, same is of the keyboard.

4. There is no wifi signal caught on Internet Recovery for three minutes or so(My hotspot is 5cm behind my mac).

To sum up, it feels like the cpu is running at 5Mhz or something.

Here's a list of what I tried.

1. resetting smc, pram

2. Reinstalling Mac OS

3. formatting internal SSD and installing Mac OS

4. Removing boot camp

5. Removing magsafe

6. Safe mode(doesn't matter eventually, because I don't think it's related to Mac OS anyway)

I Don't have any external devices nor drives, All that's present is the magsafe.

I Still have Apple Care left, so don't hesitate to tell me if you guys think it's a hardware problem 🙂. Thank you for reading, and I appreciate your help.

Hello everyone,

I have two iMacs (late 2013) 27" with 32gb RAM, and 3TB Fusion drive. Both are running on latest Sierra 10.12.5. They both perform great, fast, and reliable since I bought them in December 2013. I've been very good at updating them whenever there is available update. Only about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that one of them, when I press the power button on the back, the screen would light up (black) and would get stuck there for about 15 seconds before the fan would start up and the startup chime would play, and the Apple logo would come up, then it would take about another 15 seconds (which is normal) to reach the desktop screen. At first, I thought that was strange that there's a delay in hearing the chime when it used to be almost instantaneously after pressing the power button. What's baffles me is that the other iMac with same specs and OSX installed is not having this issue.

What I did so far which made no difference:

1. Select Startup disk and restart

2. SMC reset

3. PRAM reset

4. Swapped RAMs with the other iMac

5. Safe mode

6. Diagnostic Tools reported no issues found

7. Check potency of the internal battery (turned off wifi, unplugged iMac for 3 days, plugged it back, turned on) it kept date/time which means the battery is in good shape.

This is very frustrating! Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Please HELP. Thanks!
