iMac 3d part software updates don't work

i Have an iMac 27 running OS 10.11.3 24GB RAM and enough space on the hard drive . Have now two 3d party softwares/applications that require updates. The softwares download the updates and then ask for ok to shut down for installation of update. This is done , but no update has bee executed and again the same update request pops up on the old software version. I can manage this with a manual download from the vendors web page , but this is not how it should work! Any idea where this can be fixed/adjusted ?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Yes, with one of them. They suggested to uninstall and reinstall from scratch , but eventually that didn't solve the issue . The strange thing is that I have the same softwares on my MacBook Air , and there they "autoupdate" as they're supposed to !This would indicate that there's some setting on my iMac that prevents these updates to update!?

I did already delete the ADWARE mentioned below!

EtreCheck version: 2.9.4 (254)

Problem: Other problem

Description:

Some software and app autoupdates don’t work. The download seems to be running, once I’m asked for OK to close the app for update installation , the software restarts in the same old version and again askes for the same update

Hello maxrobert,

It is good that you were able to use EtreCheck to detect and remove your adware, but this really looks like a different problem altogether.

Your EtreCheck report shows that you have an external hard drive connected. Never, ever run software update or the App Store with an external hard drive connected. Invariably, the App Store update logic will only update the software on the external hard drive, not your startup machine. Then it will complain that you need an update. You run the update, and again it updates the (now updated) software on the external hard drive. Repeat forever. As an added bonus, any archived versions of old software you had on that external hard drive are now gone, or updated rather. The old versions you were saving are gone.

Ideally, any archived software on external hard drives should be compressed into ZIP files or DMG files. And in case you accidentally forget, always unplug external hard drives before running software update.

iMac 3d part software updates don't work
