Question

iPhone rejects incoming email because it is “over quota.”

I send an email via my iPhone or iPad to a specific recipient’s iPhone and iPa. Almost as immediately I get this response from Apple:

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

Recipient address: jenniferadams@icloud.com
Reason: Over quota

I don’t know what “Over quota” means, or how to help my intended email recipient resolve this problem. We are both using iPhone 5 and iPad Air devices with current operating systems. Does anyone here know anything about this? Thanks!

Thanks. Unfortunately, this article is all about using Microsoft Outlook, not Apple’s iOS mail app.

I think you will find that it is generic. Almost all e-mail providers set a limit to their e-mail storage for each customer. The advice given in the article is also applicable.

For their own email system, iCloud mail, Apple is very clear on account limits - Mailbox size and message sending limits in iCloud - Apple Support

Note that your free iCloud email account shares space with anything and everything else you put into your iCloud storage (5GB default with the free iCloud account setup).
