Ipod losing songs and screen unresponsive

I have an Ipod Nano 6th generation. The device is continuously losing songs. Meaning the songs are listed but it does not ply them. I synch the device with Itunes, and it does not help. Once a song I "lose" a song on the Ipod, it will never play again even if I download it again from whatever source. Then I tried doing a restore on the device and it was worse. After the restore, I have been unable to use the touch screen. Has anyone had the same experience?
