Are AAC files transcoded when transmitted from iOS with AAC codec over Bluetooth?

When sending a pre-compressed AAC file via Bluetooth to a device supporting the AAC codec, there's theoretically no need to decode and re-encode the file in the source device. Yet it seems to me that iOS devices encode to AAC with a standard bit rate and 44,1 kHz sample rate whatever the original format of the file is.

Does anyone have further information on that?
