iTunes changes genre of songs when I play them

I have taken some time updating the genres of my music to help better organize my music collection. However, when I go to play the song in its new location, it disappears, and is found back in its original genre. When I go back into "Get Info" for the album and change the genre to where I want it to be then it stays. I can't figure out why iTunes does this? I have tried messing with settings based on other posts with no luck. Any help would be great! Thank You!
