move photos to iMac then delete from iPhone

I would like to clean my iPhone 5c off because it is full. My iCloud storage is also full so can't backup my phone. How can I MOVE pictures to my iMac (OS X El Capitan) then delete them from my phone at the same time (so I know I am only deleting ones I have moved)? iPhoto went away with the latest upgrade.

Thank you

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.2.1

In iTunes you have the option to backup your phone iCloud OR to your computer. Why not simply backup to the computer??

iPhoto was replaced by Photos for Mac, that is located not the Dock of your iMac. If you simply click it, it should ask to import your iPhoto library. You can then begin using that for managing your photos on your Mac and for offloading photos stored on your iPhone onto the Mac.
