Outgoing email failure

My messages won't send in email. I get the message "The connection to the outgoing server "pop.vodafone.co.nz" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>mail, contacts, calendars

I have just tried with my hotmail account and I'm getting a message to say the password is incorrect?
