Q: How can I share a GarageBand project with another person?

I am using the latest version (2.1) of GarageBand for iPad and would like to be able to share my projects with other members of my band, preferably without having to use a PC/Mac, as a sort of audio sketchbook for song ideas.  I would like the guitarist to be able to record some guitar over a drum track and then share it with the vocalist to record lyrics and bassist to record a bassline (all of whom use GarageBand for iPad) and then pass it back for refinement.  So far I have found 2 options, neither of which fit the task:

  • I can share the song via Dropbox (or Google Drive) but this "flattens" the project and saves it as an audio file which does not contain the individual instrument tracks.
  • I can export it to iCloud as a .band project file (i.e. containing the individual instrument tracks) but cannot share this with other people as iCloud does not allow sharing!*

*I could use a Mac or PC to copy the .band file from iCloud to Dropbox/Google Drive to share it and then the other users would need to copy it to their iCloud drive (using a Mac or PC) and import it into GarageBand on their iPad.  But surely there is a simpler way that does not involve using a computer?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

No, there isn't. Without the detour to a computer you cannot exchange GarageBand projects between iPads, unless you all were using the same AppleID and iCloud.

You can only send audio files back and forth, so one of you would have to collect the separate tracks and mix them.
