Keeps marking episodes as unplayed

The app for some reason keeps marking episodes of podcasts as unplayed when I have already played them. I have already marked them as played many times. Is there a fix for this?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2.1, null

This happens to me regardless of having actually listed to the podcast or simply marked it as played.

This happens to me for a small number (6) of episodes that keep automatically reloading onto my podcast app no matter how many times I mark them played or delete them. Other episodes from the same podcasts are not affected. The troublesome episodes were all downloaded around the same time (within days of each other).
