Is there a list of "air-play" compatible web video player/sites for streaming video directly to the apple tv (apart from youtube)? Or is it just a youtube thing?

While no list exist for what is compatible, you do have some troubleshooting options to look over if a video is not playing properly. I do know that if it is iTunes Store content, then that content will need to specify if it can be played via AirPlay. Take a look at the article below to help you out.
