The Activity app runs permanently in the background, recording activity towards your three daily goals: Stand, Exercise and Move (calories).
The Workout app separately enables you to record workouts, which may (depending on your activity type) also include other data such as pace, distance and/or speed.
Discarding / not saving a workout in the Workout app does not prevent the Activity app from crediting any progress that was earned towards your Activity app goals during the workout period. This is the normal / expected behaviour.

Aug 5, 2016 3:42 AM in response to Jonathan UKby djcraigo,Sorry - but how is this possibly the expected behaviour? You discard the data - so why is the data included in activity? I get that they are two different apps - but workout data contributes to activity data - so by discarding it, you would clearly expect it to be discarded from both - otherwise why are they interlinked?

Aug 5, 2016 3:56 AM in response to djcraigoby Jonathan UK,When deleting a workout, you do not "discard the data" that the Activity app records - you only discard the workout (ie a record of results covering a particular activity during a particular period).
The Activity app tracks your activity throughout the day, both during workouts and during general daily wear.

Aug 5, 2016 6:36 AM in response to Jonathan UKby djcraigo,Yes - so if it tracks your activity 'during workouts' then it should remove it when you select 'discard data' from your workouts! It can't work one way and not the other it makes absolutely no sense. Hope they sort this out. It's so easy to forget to end a workout, and whilst ideally you could edit - perhaps just the time, rather than discarding it completely, discarding the data is better than activity thinking you've been cycling for the past 6 hours!
