Audio-Midi-Setup resetting after reboot

Hello,

I have the very frustating problem that my settings in the audio-midi-setup keep resetting on every reboot.

Therefore i searched for the com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist in /Library/Preferences but there is no such file and no Audio folder.

It seems Mac OS X has problem creating such setting file.

Would be nice if someone could help me out here.

info: i updated from Mavericks to El Capitan without Yosemite. I also had some Network-Issues, and deleting the network plist did help here.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Thank you for your answer.

I found out that the file is there, and i actualy have read/write permissions. It is also not locked.

The modified date does change to the current time when i change something in the Midi-Audio-Setup menu.

So everything seems fine with this file, eventhough it looks corrupt when i open it with TextEdit. (It looks fine in the preview-tab of the Information Window)

However, when i set a Standard-Output Device, it is reset to the system's choice when i do a reboot. :-(

If you have an additional idea, please let me know.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)

from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.

☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?

☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?

☞ What is the Modified date?

If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

Thank you for your answer, but as i mentioned in the first post i do not have an Audio-folder in /Library/Preferences.

So the command fails when i want to execute it:

$ sudo chown 202:202 /L*/P*/A*/*.audio.*.plist; sudo chmod -N $_
chown: /L*/P*/A*/*.audio.*.plist: No such file or directory
chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file /L*/P*/A*/*.audio.*.plist: No such file or directory

1) The file you mention is NOT a text file, it is a binary preferences file, so it is quite natural that is looks like gibberish in TextEdit.

If you have XCode, and double-click this file, you are likely to see it as it is meant.

It contains a Root dictionnary, with a few items (mine shows 8, but it will vary).

QuickLook must have an interpreter for this type of file, and so is capable of interpreting it and showing it as if it were an actual text file with xml code.

2) The fact that you don't seem to have a /Library/Audio folder is unexpected. When I make changes in Audio Midi Setup I can see the changes affect the

/Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist file. Your problem seems to be that this file does not exist, so the system reverts to the defaults all the time.

2) That was also my theory mentioned in the first post. but i cant find out why os x should not be able to create the file. 😟

hello, I have a problem with a Xone k2, not walk , read you have to create a folder but am new to the world of " Macbook " and do not understand how I could help ? I could read it is a problem with El Capitan , but I need to walk . I am looking forward to your response. Thank you
