how do I obtain 300dpi on my final design?
International poster contest requires 300dpi image, scaled to 27" x 40" vertical. How do I create this using Pages?
MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10), can the 2 calendars be synced?

That is going to be one huge file.
Simple maths makes that a 8,100 x 12,000 pixel bitmap in whatever format they will accept.
Are you sure they want a bitmap image of the entire poster or a pdf that has all images at a minimum of 300dpi?

Here are the details concerning my design submission for the poster which has be 27" x 40" in its finished printed form. Not sure exactly what they mean by this:
Submission Guidelines:
All file submissions must be in jpeg, tiff, or png format
Entries must be submitted at 300 dpi (CMYK)
File must be no larger than 12MB
Are you a Designer? Because Designers are supposed to know this.
Create a Custom Page size (27 x 40 in):
Menu > File > Page Setup > Paper Size: > Manage Custom Sizes (bottom of List) > click on the + and rename the Size > Paper Size: 27 width / 40 height > OK
Use that Custom Size and make sure you place images at 300 dpi which will require you to know their size and resolution before you drag them into pages and use the Measures to keep them at the right resolution.
When you have finished your design, Print it to PDF then open that pdf in Preview and resave it as a 300dpi jpeg playing with the quality settings until you get it below 12mb.

I was a designer for 25 years but using a p.c. and different software. Then I started teaching, consulting for Christie's and Sotheby's. Pretty much stopped graphic design. Now I have my Mac and Pages...was tempted by this Chicago International Film Fest. poster search. I'm in Paris now and it's tricky getting an appt at the Apple Store, unlike in Chicago, to get face to face details on the requirements. You've been very helpful. My final question is: if I have certain images in mind to use (photos for the most part), I realize they have to be full size for the resolution to work, but how can I know what their dpi is ?
Open them in Preview
Menu > Tools > Adjust size
You will need to note the physical size as well as the dpi.
Because Pages does not honor size nor resolution upon importing images, change the image in Preview to 300dpi without changing resolution, then note the physical size in inches and use that as your reference size in Pages. So long as you make the image less then that size in Pages you have more than 300dpi.
Or you could use all the standard Adobe Software, but I suspect you used Corel's instead?
Peter
Yes, I could use Adobe. That's an idea if this doesn't fall together for me. A million thanks for your suggestions !
