Q: iDVD won't open due to atos debugging required. Help please as I need to produce dvd's with chapter selection and have only used iDVD for years

I use iDVD to produce my wedding videos. With latest updates to operating system, the programme requires an admin password to allow atos debugging to continue, and when entered, iDVD just shuts down. Is there any way around this ?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), editing on FCP X

    Hey there WAPhoto,

I understand that you are seeing an issue when attempting to open iDVD on your computer. I would like to suggest a troubleshooting step for you that may resolve this issue. Please navigate to your Library folder using the information in this link:

In the Finder, click the Go menu in the menu bar, then choose one of the following:

Library: Hold down the Option key, then choose Library.

OS X El Capitan: Go directly to a specific folder

    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22187

From there, navigate to your Preferences folder. In that folder, find the plist labeled “com.apple.iDVD.plist” and move it from that folder to the desktop.

Back out of that folder and go to the folder labeled Caches. In that folder, navigate to the folder named com.apple.iDVD and move the file named “Cache.db” that is contained in that folder to the desktop as well.

At this point, you can close the Finder window and relaunch iDVD. If iDVD opens without issue, you may move the files you moved onto the desktop to the trash and continue to use iDVD as desired.

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

    Hi Alex

Thank you so much, I have been through all the steps. Only found a folder called com.apple.ilife.plist and moved that to desktop. Couldn't find the file named Cache.db though. Reopened iDVD and it has opened without any issues - running it through creating a dvd right now. I cannot thank you enough as I have 5 wedding productions to get out before Friday and was at a total loss of what to do.

Thank you once again, will let you know if all is ok at the end of the process.
