Does Epson Print CD not work with Airprint?

I'm trying to use Epson Print CD on my new Epson XP-630. When I select my printer, I get a warning saying I cannot print with Airprint, and that I must install an Epson driver. I've installed the Epson drivers twice now, and reset the printing system about 4 times. Same warning.

I'm using El Capitan 10.11.3

Any solutions?

Just in case someone has this same problem, I want to tell you exactly what I did.

I have a new 2017 iMac with Sierra and an Epson XP-830 with the CD/DVD tray; I bought it specifically for this to replace my Artisan 800 which got zapped by lightining.

1) downloaded the Apple Epson driver .dmg package as per Berman's instructions

2) deleted everything from my list of printers

3) installed the drivers

4) manually installed the printer by selecting its name and NOT SecureAirPrint or AirPrint

5) reopened PrintCD and selected File >> Update Printer Information***

6) after that last step, I went in and tried to print, and selected the XP-830 from the drop-down list, and it recognized it and was ready to print. VERY frustrating process to have to figure all this out. Step #5 on my list was the crucial bit that was left out of every other list of steps to get this going. Apparently you need the Apple Epson Driver but you need to tell Print CD that you have that before it will recognize the printer.

IMPORTANT! --follow the instructions on your printer. Pull out the tray for the XP-830 and have the disc sitting in it, but do not load it until the printer asks for it, and then follow the instructions on your printer for how to load it. DONT shove the tray all the way in; instead, slide it in (push gently but firmly) until the marks on the printer and the marks on the tray line up. Then hit "start" and it will do the rest. DEFINITELY more complicated than the good old Artisan 800. I may have to get one of those on eBay if this one conks out but it does print a very nice job on DVDs. Looks like laser printing.

Good luck!

I had this issue too. I pretty much went through all the same steps you did and I scoured the internet looking for an answer to no available. I only figured it out by chance, right as my patience was coming to an end. The solution is simple, but it's not obvious.

Follow the instructions on the following page to properly set up your XP-630 with Epson drivers. Basically, it's not a matter of just downloading the driver (who knew?). You have to actually delete and manually re-add the printer from Apple settings, where you can select the driver instead of AirPrint.

Then—and this is what I was hung up on for like an hour—the printer will disappear entirely as an option in Print CD. You have to select "Update Printer Information" from the file menu. It never occurred to me to look there; I just happened upon it by accident.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

The Epson XP-630 is supported by El Capitan (regardless of AirPrint)

Do not use Epson's driver CD! Toss it in the trash (unless you plan to return to Windows). For Macs, download and use Apple's Epson driver:

Here is how to add your printer to your Mac:

This came very close to helping...the "Update Printer Info" button was something I missed. This at least got me to the point where I could theoretically print...however, my printer somehow wouldn't do the right thing...kept spitting the disk tray out. And briefly, there was that awful sound of something trying to print across plastic and not the disk...will try Berman's suggestion next.

OK, so the perfect answer is a combination of the two:

1. Get the Apple Epson driver, as per Berman.

2. Once it's loaded, make sure to Update Printer Info within PrintCD.

3. Finally: don't insert the CD tray until the screen on the printer tells you to. You won't get instructions on your Mac screen about this--just on the printer!

Thanks for your help, guys, this was driving me nuts!

Glad it's working for you.

Enjoy your Apple gear!

By the way, from now on, as you check for available software updates through the Mac's App Store, you will receive Epson driver updates should they become available (as long as your model printer remains supported by Apple, which would normally be quite a few years).
