I recently got a message on my iPhone 6 plus that said safari virus to call 888-508-8529 to fix. Is this a scam and if not how do I fix it. The message popped up twice when I was on a weather app. Thanks

What if you called the number and then refused to pay them? Has your phone been compromised?
Poor plan to call them. Then they know they have a live number. Far better to ignore them.
I'll second Allen. Under no circumstances should you call them.

Criminals are after your money, that's all. If you didn't pay them there is no need for concern.
My phone started displaying a vibrating bar across the top. It will not respond to touch and randomly opens apps, calls contacts, and etc. I could not reset because it would not respond. When I finally did calm it down enough to reset, this did not fix the issue. I erased all settings, etc. It's still possessed and I cannot even shut ti down.
To be clear, this event came on with no precipitating factors. No downloads, no jailbreaking, no nothing. I paid out of my pocket a fortune for this phone and have taken excellent care of it with cover, thick protective screen, etc. This can only be a virus. Hardware does not simply, randomly fry.
I went online to make an appt for the genius bar and it is 3 days before I can be seen at 7:20 pm. Good grief.
I had a similar problem, but in my case a javascript program was running that displayed an error message and prevented me from closing the web site. I have a quick fix though.
Shut down Safari
Go into Settings.
Scroll down to Safari.
Go to Advanced.
Turn off JavaScript.
Go back to Safari and open the web page. The script won't launch the error message. Delete the web page.
Go back to settings as described above and turn javascript back on.
