Feb 15, 2016 8:30 PM in response to gsmaxby rkaufmann87,You are not speaking to Apple on these forums, we are all end users like yourself. However I think you would benefit greatly if you read Use the CD or DVD drive from another computer with your Mac - Apple Support

Feb 15, 2016 9:01 PM in response to gsmaxby gsmax,Sorry, doesn't seem to work for music cds. Had to import on Mac with optical drive and then add to library on other Mac Pro. Lame. Might work for data files, didn't try it, but interface is weak.

Feb 16, 2016 1:04 AM in response to gsmaxby lllaass,Just what does not work?
Apple says these will not work:
Incompatible discs
DVD or CD sharing isn't designed for some kinds of optical media. Connect a compatible optical drive directly to your Mac if you need to use one of these discs:
- Audio CDs
- Blu-ray or DVD movies
- Copy protected discs (such as some game discs)
- Recordable CDs or DVDs that you want to burn or erase
- Microsoft Windows installation discs
I have used this sharing to use the optical drive on my 2009 Mac Pro on my 2013 Mac Pro

Feb 16, 2016 1:43 AM in response to gsmaxby John Lockwood,Illaass is correct some types of optical disc are deliberately not supported by Apple.
Apple intend this feature only for exchanging data files e.g. you receive a CD of documents from another person, or to run an Application installer from the original optical disc, or to install Snow Leopard or earlier. (Newer operating systems no longer come on optical discs.)
