How to remove automatic pop-up of bookmarks in safari? (OS X El Capitan)

Mine doesn't do that on a Mini desktop, and I can't find any settings that offer that capability.
Perhaps it is a Gesture on the Trackpad or something related to it being more of a mobile device.
Or, maybe an extension you installed.
You might try in a Macbook Air forum if this is a function of it being a mobile device.
Are you using Safari in full screen mode? If so, the bookmarks bar will slide out from the left. To get rid of this, either take Safari out of full screen mode or move your Dock to the left side of your screen in System Preferences. Otherwise, there's no way to stop that.
Thanks! Yeah, I always use safari in fullscreen mode, but this has not happened before - but moving dock to the left worked! Thanks a bunch!

You're very welcome! I'm glad to have been able to help. 🙂
I thought that might be it, but I went to full screen and couldn't make it happen.
I discovered that having my Safari window on the right monitor made it almost impossible to get the bookmarks to pop out. Without going very slowly, I couldn't make my mouse stop at the left edge of the Safari window.
