Missing HDD Space

Hi!

I own a late-2012 Mac-Mini Model. My HDD supports 500GB, and did so when I first got it. Around last year, I attempted to use Bootcamp to have a Windows partition of 250GB and my Macintosh HD partition the other 250GB. The problem was that it didn't work and Bootcamp pretty much wrecked my whole computer. So, I reinstalled my whole system. Unfortunately, after I went into recovery mode and reinstalled OSX, I was left with only 250GB on my mac. The windows parition did not exist, and it was empty space that I couldn't add to my Macintosh HD. I was fine with 250GB though, however, just yesterday I successfully got Windows 10 on my bootcamp! But I only can give it 80GB as I need the other 170GB for my Macintosh HD! The windows partition needs more though! What do I do? I want the full 500GB back. I'll put a screenshot. It seems stupid how 250GB is just sitting there and is not available after reinstalling OS X or now. So, to recap, I have lost 250GB of my HDD and I don't know where it is or how to get it back. Last time I reinstalled OS X, It did nothing. I really don't want to reinstall OS X or Windows since it took me hours to all nicely set up. I also own bought applications that would be a hassle to reinstall.

Thanks! -ChristopherUser uploaded file

Can you post the output of the following OSX Terminal commands?

diskutil list

diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

It seems that it didn't identify where the missing GB are according to my disks. It does not add up to 500GB but my full HDD is as shown 500GB. Last time I reinstalled OSX/my whole computer, I never got an option to fix/edit the partitions so please don't recommend reinstalling my computer lol, like I said, it'd be a hassle. Thanks and I hope this information I sent you tells you something because frankly, I have no idea what the parts mean after "Password:" lol!

Here's what I got.

Christophers-Mac-Mini:~ Christopher$ diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 "limits"

For device disk0s2 Macintosh HD:

Current size: 170.0 GB (169974046720 Bytes)

Minimum size: 72.5 GB (72537083904 Bytes)

Maximum size: 170.0 GB (169974046720 Bytes)

Sorry I haven't replied super fast like you've doing (thank you!), it's just my email keeps notifying me many hours after the reply has been posted.

I do not recall ever resizing my EFI system partition. I only ever resized my Macintosh HD and my Windows partion. If you want more info on what happended, I'll tell you; I attempted Windows 7 but had a glitch where my Mac would only start with "No Bootable Device" and it was because somehow my Mac partition and faulty Windows 7 partition got corrupted so I reinstalled OSX unfortunately never giving me back my 250GB. I ended up splitting my only 250GB again last week for 170GB to my Macintosh HD and and 80GB to Windows 10. I never touched any other partitions or anything.

I don't have a backup of my Mac...at least I don't think so because I never enabled Time-Machine. If you want me to, I could I guess but it would take up some hefty space on my small 170GB Macintosh HD lol! I'm not home right now but when I am I'll send you an output of the Terminal response.

Like I said, I had an unsuccessful Windows 7 partition about six months ago. I got Windows 10 after creating a new partition about a week ago. I don't think that's considered an upgrade in that sense lol. If it makes anything better, when I start my Mac-Mini and hold option/alt, the 3 disks are Macintosh HD, Windows, and Recovery or whatever. Once again, sorry for the one-day responses, just busy.

Thanks!

About the backing up thing...see I don't really have a 80GB external storage...heck I don't even own more than a 4GB storage! I wouldn't be able to back it up on an external storage. If this means that I'll have to reinstall everything if something doesn't go as planned then I guess I don't really have a choice lol?

Feb 19, 2016 11:14 AM in response to Loner T

Yeah, the thing is my Mac-Mini model (and I think all Mac-Mini models) do not come with optical drives to use CDs, and I don't own an external optical drive I can plug-in/use. Sorry, I know it seems really inconvenient but I have no optical drive to burn a CD (but I do have blank CDs lol!) and no external storage. Can I boot it from a USB? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Feb 19, 2016 9:21 PM in response to Loner T

The main download link seems broken. I tried another link and it worked.

So, what is this supposed to do? Am I supposed to put their .iso file on a USB and attempt to boot from it? I think it's more than that, no lol? Sorry...just a little confused and cautious.

Edit: I went to instructions but I cannot find the specific link for the GParted Live USB .iso and the instructions page only contains instructions for Windows/Linux, lol.
